Brightlands Circular Space

Brightlands Circular Space

We focus on making used fossil plastics circular and everyone involved, from makers to users and from recyclers to researchers.

We do this from a broad perspective. We not only come up with circular plastic products that are good for our planet, but we also think about how we can make those products and which smart business models we can set up. From the end of 2026, we will have an openly accessible demonstrator, so that we can not only immediately see what is technologically possible, but also develop matching revenue models. A place to inspire each other and contribute to a positive change for a climate-neutral Europe in 2050.
Our alliance
Brightlands Circular Space is an alliance led by Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Maastricht University and TNO. Together they invest in knowledge, resources, networks and enthusiasm for the development of circular plastics. As a foundation, they are realizing, together with funds, investors and partners, one of the world's first demonstration facilities for circular plastics. This is our mission and vision

The basis for our initiative lies in the unique circular materials ecosystem of Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Maastricht University and TNO and the Circular Economy Action Plan that the South Limburg region drew up in 2021 from Chemelot Circular Hub.

Our goals and impact
We show what is possible in the field of circular plastics on an industrial scale and how we can close the loop for plastic raw materials.
Brightlands Circular Space focuses on economic, ecological, social and technological impact.

Governance
Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Maastricht University and TNO together form the Steering Committee Brightlands Circular Space. The Steering Committee is tasked with safeguarding the goal and ecosystem of Brightlands Circular Space. It also supervises the strategic development in the long term, joint ambitions and collaboration. The management and administration of the demonstration facility is the responsibility of BCSF BV. This is supervised by the General Meeting of Shareholders (Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Maastricht University and TNO).

These are our partners
To achieve our mission, we collaborate with private and public investors and ecosystem partners. At regional, national and international levels, we forge partnerships focused on the realization of infrastructure, innovation and scaling, human capital and consortia formation. Through collaboration, we also want to contribute to optimal legislation and regulations and financing for the emerging circular plastics industry.
