Italian fashion brand uses traceability platform to measure environmental impact

TrusTrace, a global SaaS company with a platform for product traceability and supply chain compliance , has announced that TWINSET, a high-end Italian fashion brand, has selected the company’s platform to help identify suppliers, support eco-design initiatives, and measure each product’s environmental impact.

With a three-year roadmap, results will be reached progressively by scaling-up to ultimately trace the brand’s full range of product categories and suppliers. Key objectives are to identify the material country of origin, manage supply-chain risks -  such as forced labour - and enable eco-design by assessing the environmental impact of each product, says the company.

This is helping Milan-based Twinset to prepare for incoming regulations such as Digital Product Passports (DDPs) which will be mandatory on textiles sold in Europe by 2030, as well as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which requires companies to report on their environmental and social impact.

“By partnering with us, Twinset has deepened its commitment to tracing its supply chain in granular detail,” says TrusTrace CEO and co-founder Shameek Ghosh. “The brand can now better understand where and how its clothing is produced and track each product’s environmental impact – all within one platform.”

According to Silvia Zaganelli, traceability and business development manager at TWINSET, “Since signing on with TrusTrace in May 2024, we have started implementing the platform as the backbone of our three-year Traceability program. This is a company-wide strategic program ambitioning to discover sub-suppliers, map and collect data for key value processes, and achieve PO-level traceability.”

To further its environmental initiatives, TrusTrace has collaborated with Peftrust, a leading provider of life cycle assessment (LCA) tools, offering TWINSET robust support in evaluating the sustainability of its products, it claims.

Elsewhere TrusTrace also hosted a key session at the recent COP29 entitled, “Data-Driven Decarbonization: Navigating Fashion’s Path to Net Zero”

“We were thrilled to host this session alongside some of the most influential and experienced stakeholders in the industry to inspire brands, financial institutions, and suppliers to take action to enable the large-scale decarbonization of supply chains,” said TrusTrace CEO and co-Founder Shameek Ghosh. “While data is certainly integral to power sustainable supply chain finance at scale, so too is collaboration.”

The session explored the state of decarbonization, the industry collaborations and initiatives driving change, and the trillion-dollar investment opportunity to scale these efforts. Attendees and viewers learnt how best practices from other industries can be applied to fashion, what it takes to overcome barriers to scaling, and how to leverage data to unlock financing and accelerate the journey to net-zero.

“When it comes to the critical act of fighting climate change and investing in sustainability, only high-quality data can drive decisive action, unlock funding, and build stakeholder trust,” Ghosh concluded.
