WarmMark QR: a smart, connected solution for cold chain monitoring | 17-02-2025 |

The WarmMark QR is a single-use, battery-free temperature sensor that can revolutionize cold chain monitoring, say the makers SpotSee. Enabled by smartphones, it detects temperature excursions, providing essential data like time, date, location, and serial number. This information is uploaded to the SpotSee Cloud, delivering actionable insights to improve shipping quality and efficiency.
Designed to provide clear, visual indicators, the WarmMark QR changes from white to pink/red when unacceptably high temperatures are detected. With its simplicity and reliability, it enables cold chain stakeholders—from manufacturers to patients—to have real-time visibility into the condition of temperature-sensitive products, according to the company.
SpotSee has identified a number of key benefits: Improved Decision Making, so gaining insights to identify, analyse, and enhance cold chain lanes or problem areas remotely; Visualize Cold Chain Performance to track sensitive assets with real-time, cloud-based monitoring, ensuring visibility down to the patient level; Compliance & Data Security the sensors are built to comply with 21 CFR Part 11 requirements, ensuring secure access and regulatory adherence for shipment data; Adoption Made Easy as no app is required—WarmMark QR is user-friendly for all cold chain personnel, from manufacturers to end recipients.
After activating the WarmMark QR sensor it can be applied to a shipment. The sensor then tracks environmental temperature conditions throughout transit. When the shipment is delivered recipients scan the QR code using a smartphone to instantly access shipment condition data. The scan data is sent in real time to the SpotSee Cloud, providing shippers with immediate insights.
The company believes WarmMark QR offers a reliable, cost-effective way to monitor temperature-sensitive shipments, ensuring the integrity of products and the safety of patients or customers. Whether shipping pharmaceuticals, biologics, or other sensitive goods, WarmMark QR ensures optimal performance throughout the cold chain, it says.
The company claims the sensor is 11 times more cost-effective than other single-use PDF data loggers, enabling advanced cold chain monitoring for last mile and other applications. It has strong sustainability credentials being composed of 87% sustainable and 90% recyclable materials, a significantly smaller carbon footprint compared to traditional data loggers, it claims. It also offers high precision and longevity for extended storage and shipping needs. WarmMark QR delivers accurate temperature readings with ±1°C (±2°F) accuracy plus a 2-year shelf life.
The sensor is smartphone readable without an App so scans seamlessly with almost any device. Users gain immediate access to temperature excursion data once the product is scanned, complete with time, date, location, and serial number.
Temperature Availability: The sensors are available in a range of standard temperatures. This is to try to ensure all monitoring needs are covered – single window sensors will be available at the following levels: 18°C/0°F, 0°C/32°F, 5°C/41°F, 8°C/46°F, 10°C/50°F, 25°C/77°F, 26°C/79°F, 30°C/86°F, 37°C/99°F
