/ The city of Leuven, Belgium, has launched a project promoting reusable packaging for takeaway meals in seven catering establishments. Customers choose reusable jars, register for free via an app, and merchants scan QR codes when the container is purchased. Jars must be returned within 14 days to any participating business; late returns incur a €12 fee. The initiative aims to reduce public bin waste, which is reported as a significant issue since the COVID-19 pandemic. An evaluation will be conducted in December 2024. The organising body says other traders can still join the scheme.
