QR coding: making the difference in sports nutrition, eco-packaging compliance, movie themed promotions and Mars ‘QR logos’

/BOTTA EcoPackaging, an innovator in sustainable packaging solutions, recently announced the launch of iQRcode™. This intelligent QR code simplifies environmental labelling compliance across the European Union (EU) while empowering brands to strengthen consumer connections, it claims.

iQRcode tackles the complexities of navigating diverse EU environmental regulations, says the company. It seamlessly integrates current and evolving directives for products sold in various EU countries, beginning with Italy and France. As regulations change or new countries join the EU, the code automatically updates, in real time, all relevant Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) with compliant labelling in the respective languages, minimizing the risk of non-compliant products.

Further, iQRcode™ embraces the Digital Product Passport (DPP) concept, aligning with the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). This facilitates a more transparent and sustainable supply chain, allowing for the seamless incorporation of required DPP information, according to Botta, which showcased the code at the recent CPHI event in Bangkok

/Myprotein, a leading Indian  online sports nutrition brand, has announced the introduction of an innovative 'Authentication QR Code' feature, so consumers can now easily verify and confirm the authenticity of their purchases. This feature provides access to important data such as authenticity, country of origin, best before date and batch number.

Positioned on the back of every unit of Impact Whey Protein, the QR code provides customers with access to essential product information. Through proactive measure and understanding  customer needs, Myprotein aims to safeguard customer health and combat counterfeiting.

Sudeshna Saha , regional manager India, Myprotein said, "We're thrilled to introduce the authentication QR Code feature on our Impact Whey Protein packaging. This innovative addition not only reinforces our dedication to delivering high-quality products but also empowers our customers to make informed purchasing decisions.”

/In anticipation of the film Borderlands release on Aug. 9 in USA, regional burger chain White Castle is offering limited-edition retail and restaurant packaging that features favorite characters from the movie, a spin off from the popular video game. The special Borderlands-themed designs can be found on most six-count packs of White Castle 100% beef Sliders in grocery stores across the USA as well as on cups in White Castle restaurants.

The movie-themed packaging includes unique QR codes that will allow anyone with a smartphone to enjoy seven different augmented reality (AR) experiences that bring Claptrap, a robot with attitude to spare, from planet Pandora featured in Borderlands, right here to Earth. The packaging and AR options promise to bring fans an unforgettable experience

/And to end with, a little teaser from confectionery giant Mars Wrigley: The company is planning to leverage Smart Label technology to enable packaging logos and images to serve as QR codes.
